Bike Check
Before any ride it's essential that you check your equipment in order to safely complete a workout and to NOT end up injured or stranded
- Learn how to familiarize yourself with the following on your bike - tires, brakes and shifting
- Cycling weekly recommends using A (air), B (brakes and bolts), C (chain and controls) as a reminder
- Here's a video less than 4 minutes long from GCN about pre ride and weekly checks
- Need further education? Ask your local shop about a learning some basic maintenance. They should be happy to help or direct you to an evening class of their own giving you the knowledge to safely ride every day
Pat's Note - During my first fully committed season of cyclocross I neglected to complete the "ABC" check mentioned above. My handlebars rattled loose on the first lap of a race and created a very difficult and dangerous situation. I now routinely check my machines before ANY ride in order to account for a safe journey, no matter how long.
